Adam is first and foremost a dedicated horseman. Raised in a horse loving, supportive family he was well in the saddle age 3. He cannot recall a time he didn’t feel a deep affinity with horses. After his pony club years he became involved in camp drafting competing Australia wide. Following he spent time on the rodeo circuit. Adam wanted to further his horse knowledge and skills, and travelled extensively around the world, learning from and working with renowned horse trainers for several years. On return home he turned his passion into the training business that has become his life’s focus. He has adapted lessons learned from horses and horsemen alike to form his own style of horsemanship. Adam has worked on many film sets, and has trained many actors to ride, including Heath Ledger for the movies Ned Kelly and Brokeback Mountain. Adam’s life story was featured on Australian Story, and his autobiography ‘Say it Out Loud’, has been, and remains an inspiration to many. In 2010 Adam fulfilled the dream of competing in and becoming Champion of the prestigious Australian Horse starting contest, Equitana’s ‘The Way Of The Horse’. Adams caring approach to horses, coupled with trust, respect and confidence has earned him a reputation as one of Australia’s best horse trainers. His greatest teacher is the horse itself, and Adam applies training techniques in accordance with each individual animal.
ALLROUND HORSEMANSHIP - in 2018 Allroundhorsemanship was formed with long term friend Mel Reid, together they re designed the business to incorporate a more mobile/accessible horsemanship, training program that was tailored to their clients individually, holding confidence, training, breaking in camps and clinics all around Australia. as well as designing and supplying quality horsemanship training products to support both horse and rider.
MEL -
A trained preschool teacher, mum & crazy organizer, who doesn’t know how to say no! Mel met Adam nearly 15 years ago at a demo she was running in Tassie as he was a new presenter called in at the last minute to fill a colt starting demo spot, from there, this talented horse trainer became a regular down in tassie doing breaking clinics & complaining about the cold, Their friendship grew over the years & eventually after little convincing on Mels end she joined Adam in the business and the organization side of things was on the mend! In 2023 Mel sold her business, a child care centre after 29 years, to focus on developing the business now & growing their brand. Her 10 yr old Daughter is a regular helper at clinics. Having bred children’s riding ponies and showed them successfully for many years and insisted poor Adam break them in for her, she eventually closed the stud after Ella was born & focused on pleasure riding and a newfound love of learning the art of Liberty work & connection with her horses.
